Teaching your teen about money. Your teen is becoming more independent, but still needs plenty of advice from you. With your help, your teen will soon develop the self-confidence and skills he or she needs to successfully manage money in the real world. –
Handling earnings from a job – I love working with my daughter. She has been working with me for years. It has taught her responsibility and self confidence. She thinks twice before blowing money on unnecessary things.
Encourage your teen to get a part-time job that will enable him or her to earn money for expenses.
Now that my teen is working, she helps out with cellphone, clothing expenses, car insurance and soon a portion of each paycheck for college.
Developing a budget is really important. We recently developed a written spending plan to help her learn to be accountable for her finances. Hopefully teaching her how to achieve a balance between money coming in and money going out.
We go to the mall together. Many times I want to put down money and help her out. Many times I hold back. She has to make her own decisions on what exactly she wants to buy and how much money she has towards her own purchase. Teaching her responsibility.
If the result shows that she won’t have enough income to meet her expenses, I encourage her to work harder helping her come up with a plan for making up the shortfall.
– I teach her how to budget and make her money last all month.
– I teach her to think spending decisions through rather than buying items right away.
– I teach her how comparing prices or waiting for an item to go on sale can save her money.
Currently working on teaching her about saving for the future! Money management is a great lesson for us parents to teach our teens.
My daughter is very aware she can always come to me for information, support, and advice.
I take a great deal of pride in my daughter working with me in my business and building a foundation for herself.
I believe that one can never leave home. I believe that one carries all the teachings, of home under one’s skin for life!
